Home audio & video systems have undergone innumerate changes over the years. Take the TV, for example – it’s no longer a mechanical device. The home audio and video systems have hit the market with a great boom, and there seems to be no stagnancy. Their constant upgrade and the addition of sophisticated components to the sound and surround system keeps them in demand every time. As appealing as these devices are, deciding which system is the best for you can be really tough.

One of the important factors which influence choice is individual’s preference. After eliminating the element of choice, the rest becomes easy. All you have to do is do a little research before purchasing the system. Searching online for some high quality audio and video systems can be a nice idea to begin with.

Initially it may seem difficult to find the right one as there are many websites offering attractive packages at competitive prices. However, the search can be really helpful if you examine the customer or expert review on the product in question. This way you can also get in touch with some of the sales representatives online. Plus you can get useful info on the features of the system from regional stores. Thus you will have an idea on the features that you will like for your audio and video system.

These days there is a lot of buzz about home theater systems. In homes, the old TV screen is quite quickly replaced by these systems. In order to choose the system that satisfies your expectations, it’s better to be familiar with different brands, the price they are offering and the features of their product.

If it’s the perfect sound and video quality that you desire, then consider these pointers before heading for the purchase.

Mustard potato salad is the type of light yellow-colored potato salad that most people are familiar with. It is easy to make, delicious, and a perfect side dish for summertime barbecues and picnics. This potato salad is sure to be favorite with your family and friends every summer.

2 pounds of raw Idaho Russet potatoes, scrubbed with skins on

6 eggs, hard boiled

1/2 cup dill pickles, diced (can also use dill pickle hamburger slices)

1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped

1/2 cup mayonnaise (light mayonnaise also works well)

3 tablespoons yellow mustard

2 tablespoons pickle juice

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon sweet paprika

2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill

1. Cut potatoes into quarters or smaller ( depending on the size of the potatoes). Put them into a pot of water and place on the stove on Hi. Boil potatoes until tender (approximately 20-30 minutes).

2. While the potatoes are boiling, bring a pan of water to a boil, place six eggs into the boiling water. Boil the eggs for 20 minutes.

3. In a bowl, mix the sauce ingredients including the mayonnaise, yellow mustard, and pickle juice. Now add the chopped chives and dill. Mix together well.

4. Drain potatoes and add to the sauce bowl.

5. Drain eggs, and run under cold water long enough that they can be handled. Peel the hard boiled eggs, slice and add into the bowl.

6. Add the diced pickles to the rest of the ingredients. Then add the salt, pepper, and paprika. Please note that different brands of pickles and pickle juice contain different amounts of salt, so taste at this point prior to adding the full amount of salt. Combine all ingredients so that everything is thoroughly coated with the dressing.

7. Chill for 8 hours or over night before serving.

There you have it, an easy, fast, and delicious take on the traditional mustard potato salad. This recipe is likely to become your stand-by for barbecues and pot lucks, because everyone loves this potato salad.

Many people love to cook with fresh herbs, but are really only able to do this during the summer months in cooler climates. Here is how to grow an herb garden indoors. Your indoor herb garden will supply you with fresh herbs all year round. There will be no need to purchase small packages of herbs from the grocery store at outrageous prices ever again, because you will have your own.

The herbs can be either planted in one long, rectangular box planter, or one plant in each planter. One plant per planter may be preferable, to ensure that each herb plant gets adequate sunlight. If one of the plants becomes large faster, there is a chance that the larger plant could overshadow the smaller plants and keep them from getting adequate sunlight.

1. You will need to purchase a variety of your favorite and most used herbs from the nursery. You may also choose to purchase planters and good quality potting soil that is appropriate for planters, if you do not already have these items.

2. Plant the herbs in the planters, and adding the appropriate amount of potting soil for the size planter that you have chosen to use. Most of these plants can grow quite large, depending how often you cut segments off for cooking, so plan accordingly and use medium to large planters. Make sure that you have drip pans under the planters, so that water will not run all over your counter when you water the plants.

3. Put your plants in an area of your home that gets as much light as possible. Ideally, the kitchen counter would be the most convenient for cooking purposes, but you have to work with the amount of light that you get in your house. The key point to remember is that herbs are almost universally full sun plants, so they need to be in a place where they get a good amount of sunlight for several hours per day.

4. Water as needed, probably not more than twice per week, but if you are not sure, feel the soil for moisture. If the soil is still wet, do not add more water.

There you have it, an indoor herb garden! You can now enjoy the freshness of summer herbs all year long.

Do you know what is common among the following banks – ING Direct, HSBC direct, Raboplus, IY Bank and The One Account? They all are success stories of Direct Banking, thus all were featured in the report ‘Direct Banking Case Studies’ back in December 2004. According to the report presented, the success levels of a few Direct Banks were closely examined, and it was concluded that Direct Banking has proved to be a feasible alternative in the new market.

So, what is direct banking anyway?

A Direct Bank is a bank without any Branch Network. It offers its services through Telephone Banking, Online Banking, Mobile Banking and Mail Banking. Thus, the first thing that comes to mind with Direct Banking is the need for a good and updated IT Infrastructure because it’s the technology that enables you to go direct.

Direct Banking is a comprehensive solution for banks to directly acquire, track and serve customers, through the Internet or mobile, all with the absence of a brick infrastructure. It is a solution that is highly secure, and supports multiple authentication mechanisms.

One of this method’s success factors is the relationship with the customers. There should be a 360 degree view of customers, and a complete balance between customer relationships and the technology used. The relationship should also be interfaced with a powerful online sales enabler infrastructure, to drive customer e-acquisition and extend the bank’s outreach.

Direct Banking has gained ground in the financial services market. It supports demand generation through online sales enablers, and optimizes marketing efforts. This results in a greater conversion of prospects. This type of banking also presents extensive security features, thus enabling the Direct Bank to offer products that are highly secure and able to withstand the onslaught of security threats.

Living in the era of Information Technology where people can set up their remote accounts from home and order sweaters, books and what not, everyone is voicing concerns about security. While consumers are worried about their identity being stolen, corporations are concerned about unauthorized access to private company data.

Since technology put people in this mess, it has provided a solution for it: Bio-Identity.

Bio-Identity is based on the principles of Biometrics, a science which recognizes people based on their traits. The prior has become applicable to all industries, and helps eliminate fraud, enable high-speed verification and allow only one person per account.

Bio-identification systems can be divided into two main types: visual and electronic. Visual bio-identification methods include the use of photographs, signatures and/or finger or thumb prints on identity cards.

On other hand, Electronic bio-identification systems include digitized voice, hand print, finger/thumb print, or retinal (eye) images. Using these systems, digital records of a person’s voice or physical features are stored on a disk or smartcard. They are then compared to the actual features of the person using some form of electronic reader.

Fingerprint biometrics offers people with a strong authentication system alternative, while reducing the operating costs associated with managing passwords and tokens. Users prefer replacing passwords with Fingerprint IDs to avoid the headaches of remembering passwords. Even if you have a clone somewhere, your fingerprints won’t match because the latter are linked with the pattern of nerve growth and not genetics.

Though Fingerprint authentication is one of the most popular techniques for identification, other types of Bio-Identity features like smart cards with voice-recognition features, DNA Scans, Retinal and Facial scanners are available as well. System manufacturers, banks, and online merchants are all beginning to recognize the advantages of biometric technology thus quite soon expect to see them around a lot.

The most common type of bunion is an area of localized enlargement in the joint at the base of the big toe. This enlargement is actually caused by added bone formation at the joint, and is frequently accompanied by the misalignment of the big toe. When this happens, the big toe, which should normally face straight forward, starts to lean outward toward the other toes of the foot. The enlarged joint, at the base of the big toe (the first metatarsophalangeal joint), can become inflamed with soreness, redness, and in some cases, extreme pain. The busa (a small fluid-filled sac adjacent to the joint), can also become inflamed, causing bursitis, which will increase the swelling, redness and pain.

The second, far less common, type of bunion is a tailor’s bunion. a tailor’s bunion is located at the base of the little toe.

Bunions are most commonly found in women. The likely reason for this is that women wear tight-fitting, pointy toed high- heeled shoes. There also seems to be a genetic factor that plays a role in the growth on bunions, especially when bunions develop in younger people.

Other risk factors for the development of bunions include congenital abnormal formation of the bones of the foot, rheumatoid arthritis, injury to the foot, or nerve conditions that affect the feet. Ballet dancing, which puts a great deal of stress on the feet, seems to play a fairly significant role in the development of bunions in ballet dancers.

Symptoms associated with bunions are pain while walking or wearing shoes that is relieved by resting. Bunions also cause the joint at the base of the big toe to become enlarged, and typically causes the big toe to lean out toward the other toes of the foot. This can cause either intermittent or continuous pain in the joint at the base of the big toe.

Bunions that cause considerable pain are usually associated with the inflammation of the soft tissues, localized tenderness, and redness.

The easiest way to relieve the pain of a bunion is to wear wider, more comfortable shoes. NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) medications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen can help to reduce both pain and inflammation. Also, using localized cold packs can be beneficial in reducing swelling. However, if these steps fail to improve the pain associated with bunions, it is time to see a physician. The physician may use a bunion splint, do cortisone injections, or even do surgery. The doctor’s choice for treatment will likely depend on the severity of the bunion(s).

Cole slaw is a comfortable standby recipe for any cook that is considering having a family picnic, barbecue, or just a get together with friends. Although cole slaw can be delicious, it gets boring, with the same-old mayonnaise-based dressing. This is a recipe that takes everything that you associate with cole slaw and and turns it on its head. This broccoli slaw recipe is extremely easy, and incredibly delicious. This recipe will have both friends and family asking to get your recipe for this blue cheese broccoli slaw, because it is just so good!

4 cups of shredded broccoli stalks (florets removed)

2 cups shredded red cabbage

2 cups shredded carrots

1 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon celery salt

1/2 teaspoon dried minced garlic

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1/2 cup blue cheese, crumbled

1. Place shredded broccoli, cabbage, and carrots into a large bowl.

2. In a medium sized bowl, combine mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, celery salt, dried minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir all the ingredients into the mixture thoroughly.

3. Pour the mayonnaise mixture over the shredded vegetables. Add the parsley and crumbled blue cheese. Fold all of the ingredients together, so that all of the veggies are evenly coated with dressing.

4. The flavors come together over 3-4 hours, so this slaw will be better if it is made several hours before serving and stored in the refrigerator.

5. Serve and enjoy this unique twist on the normal cole slaw recipe!

Granola is not only good as cereal in the morning, it is also great as a topping on yogurt or ice cream. Granola can also be a hearty, healthy snack to take on car trips, bike rides, hikes, or other outdoor activities. The best part about making your own granola is that you can add anything that you like, such as dried apricots and cranberries, or nuts that you can’t normally buy in store-bought granola, like hazelnuts or pistachios. You could even add sweetened coconut, if you so desired. You and the kids can have fun creating your own family-favorite variety of granola.

3 cups old fashioned oats
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup walnuts
1/3 cup dried apricots, chopped
1/3 cup golden raisins
1/3 cup dried cranberries

1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone backing sheet.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, salt and cinnamon.

3. In a small bowl, combine the oil, brown sugar, honey and vanilla extract. Stir the wet ingredients until completely incorporated.

4. Pour the wet honey mixture over the oats, using your hands to combine the ingredients. Combine until all of the oats are completely covered with the honey mixture.

5. Spread the oats on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a few lumps for added textural interest.

6. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven. Use a spatula to turn the oats over so all sides will be crunchy and golden. Sprinkle the walnuts over the granola to allow them to get toasted.

7. Bake for 10 more minutes.

8. Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the dried fruit over the cooked oats and nuts. Allow the mixture to cool completely. Once it has cooled, it can be stored in an air-tight container, where it can last for 7 to 10 days.

Pasta salad is a must have at any summer barbecue. This is a great pasta salad that does not have to be refrigerated, so there is no risk of food poisoning if the party runs long and the salad does not get refrigerated for several hours. This pasta salad is also a delicious, lighter break from the same-old mayonnaise-based pasta salad. Your friends and family will request this Mediterranean pasta salad at every cook-out.

1 pound of pasta ( orzo, bow ties, small shells, fusili, and elbow macaroni are all good choices)

1 14 oz. can of artichoke hearts, drained and quartered

1 7 oz. jar roasted red peppers, drained and sliced

2 cups fresh tomatoes, diced

1 cup fresh basil, chopped

1/2 cup fresh chives or scallions

1 cup black or green olives, pitted and sliced in half

1 pound of feta cheese, cut into 1 inch cubes

1 garlic clove, minced

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 tablespoon kosher salt

1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

1 cup of good olive oil

1. Boil pasta in salted water with a splash of olive oil until the pasta is al dente. Drain the pasta thoroughly, but do not rinse.

2. In a 2 cup measuring cup, combine the lemon juice, mustard, and garlic. Whisk the olive oil into the lemon juice mixture, and add the salt and pepper.

3. To the pasta, add the chives or scallions, the artichokes, sliced red peppers, fresh tomatoes, olives, and fresh basil. Stir to combine. Pour the lemon vinaigrette over the salad, stir to allow the ingredients to get covered with the dressing.

4. Add the cubed feta to the pasta salad and stir gently, so the feta doesn’t get too broken up.

5. Allow the salad to sit for at least four to five hours, so the flavors can marry. Taste the pasta salad for seasoning, and add salt and pepper as necessary.

6. Serve and enjoy!
